Definition
A series of independence movements across Central and South America in the early 19th century (roughly 1808-1830) in which colonies broke free from Spanish, Portuguese, and French rule. Inspired by Enlightenment ideas, the American Revolution, and the Haitian Revolution, these movements created numerous new nations.
