Science
Plate boundaries.
Definition
Plate boundaries are the edges where tectonic plates meet and interact. There are three main types: convergent (plates collide, forming mountains or subduction zones), divergent (plates move apart, creating new crust at mid-ocean ridges), and transform (plates slide past each other, causing earthquakes).
Examples
Real-world.
- 1 The San Andreas Fault as a transform boundary between the Pacific and North American plates
- 2 The Mid-Atlantic Ridge as a divergent boundary creating new ocean floor
- 3 The Mariana Trench forming at a convergent boundary where the Pacific plate subducts
