Definition
Finding a percentage of a number means multiplying the number by the percent expressed as a decimal. This is one of the most common real-world math applications.
Examples
Real-world.
- 1 20% of 80 = 0.20 × 80 = 16
- 2 Finding a 15% tip on a $45 meal: 0.15 × 45 = $6.75
- 3 8.5% sales tax on a $200 purchase: 0.085 × 200 = $17
