Math

Multiplication equations.

Definition

One-step equations where the variable is multiplied by a coefficient, solved by dividing both sides by that coefficient. This uses the division property of equality.

Examples

Real-world.

  • 1 5x = 35 → x = 7
  • 2 −3y = 18 → y = −6
  • 3 0.5n = 12 → n = 24
Key Fact

To solve ax = b, divide both sides by a: x = b/a (where a ≠ 0).
